Sam Hayden

Sam is Head of Operations at Viridis and Editor, where he is excited to get back into what he loves most about Viridis - writing and editorial work. Sam aims to use trends and analytical tools to influence articles and complement the work of the brilliant team of editors and writers that is rapidly forming at the magazine.

Sam is a Marine & Natural History Photography BA and International Relations MSc graduate who is passionate about the intersection of social issues, environmental issues, and international affairs.

Ross Clifton

Ross is a key member of our Editorial team at Viridis, and works closely with our writers to make our print and online features the best that they can be.


Ross is a BSc and MSc Conservation and Biodiversity graduate from the University of Exeter, currently based in Cornwall, UK. He is now working for the Mammal Society as Data and Research Officer, where he leads on the society's science projects with the aim to learn more about our UK mammals. In his spare time, Ross enjoys machining and metal working, and learning new things.

Emily Gilford

Emily is Head of Editorial at Viridis. She researches exciting topics for our fantastic contributors to write about and looks through all of your incredible pitches. She is hopeful for our planet because she believes that, with accessible science and resources like Viridis, everyone can make a difference.

Emily is currently a PhD student examining the evolution of stress in animals at the University of Exeter's Cornwall campus. She enjoys immersing herself in the natural world, through environmental courses, reading scientific research and photography. Emily is also an avid reader, and enjoys both reading and watching everything sci-fi, spending time with her dog and baking far too much...

Bethany Pihama

Bethany is Head of Communications at Viridis Magazine. In this role, she is in charge of communications and content creation for the magazine - platforming Viridis’ articles and artistic community on our social channels and elsewhere.

Beth is a communications specialist in the environmental NGO sector, wildlife photographer and writer. She is passionate about using her background in conservation biology to help communicate important environmental issues and to inspire others to take action for the planet.

Eveline White

Eveline is Online Editor at Viridis. Leading on Editorial for our online features, Eveline works closely with our writers to tell honest and informative stories about our planet.

A Biology graduate with a background in communications, Eveline is passionate about the natural world and believes in the power of well-communicated science as a tool to inspire positive change. When she’s not writing, Eveline enjoys reading and spending time by the sea.

Alex Hopwood

Alex is Head of Design at Viridis and has the exciting responsibility of designing our magazines and sharing her art expertise with the team.

Alex is a graphic designer, audio-visual artist, and experimental music maker with a background in the performing arts. Deep-rooted in her fascination with phenomenology and immersive experience, Alex uses audio-visual storytelling to inspire others to tap into their psyche and become sensorially aware. Her mission is to aid in promoting environmental awareness and advocate for women working in audio.

She is also an avid fancy dress enthusiast, flourishing poet and regular gardener who adores getting out in nature!

Leoni Fretwell

Leoni is Head of Art at Viridis, working with artists and photographers to help build the diverse visual language of the magazine. She is hopeful for the planet because of the strength and possibility of collective imagination.

Leoni is a BA English graduate from the University of Exeter, with a background in film and communications. She has a love for storytelling that connects us to the natural world. In her spare time, you’ll most likely find her reading, painting, or re-writing drafts of her novel (she aims to complete one day!)
